Going for History!
The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual. -Vince Lombardi
The Wagoner Bulldogs have their sights set on history as they take the field tonight. The Bulldogs are currently on a 42 game winning streak. With a win over the Tulsa McLain Titans, the Bulldogs will set a new record for consecutive wins in Oklahoma 11 man football.
1100 days. That is how long it has been since Wagoner’s last defeat, a 21-17 loss to Cascia Hall. Since that loss, the Bulldogs have not only gone undefeated, but also have registered three District 4A-3 titles and Class 4A State Championships.
During their winning streak, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 1858-545. That is an average score of 44-12. But it has not all been easy for the Bulldogs. They have had their share of close calls.
In the 2015 State Championship game, Wagoner was in a tough battle with the Oologah Mustangs. Wagoner quarterback Malcom Rodriguez connected with Nikia Jones on a 5-yard touchdown pass with :58 left in the game to take a 15-14 lead. The Mustangs took possession and drove down the field. With a few seconds left on the clock, Oologah lined up to kick a game winning field goal. The kick failed and the Bulldogs won their second straight championship.
This season, the Bulldogs struggled with the Fort Gibson Tigers before walking away with a 27-21 victory, their 40th consecutive win.
This streak is part of a revitalization of the Wagoner football program and its return to dominance. Head coach Dale Condict, his assistant coaches, current and former players, and the community as a whole will share the credit in this record setting evening.
