Games to Watch - Week 6 (10/6)



McLain Titans (3-2, 1-1) at Wagoner Bulldogs (5-0, 2-0)

Most of the Games to Watch are for the matchup on the field, but this one is for what the outcome of the game could result in. With a 55-14 win over Miami last week, the Wagoner Bulldogs tied the Oklahoma 11-man record for consecutive wins at 42. This week, they will try to set a new record as they host the McLain Titans for Homecoming. The Bulldogs have won the last seven meetings between these two teams by a combined score of 323-34. This season, the Bulldogs are winning by an average of 20 points. 


Claremore Zebras (4-1, 2-0) at Bishop Kelley Comets (4-1, 2-0)

This battle of two of the top two teams in class 5A-4 expects to be a contest of two strong offenses. The Zebras enter the game averaging 42 points per game, while the Comets bring in a 34 points per game average. In last seasons game, the Zebras outscored the Comets 21-0 in the first half, and held on for a 21-7 victory. 


Midwest City Bombers (4-1, 2-0) at Choctaw Yellow Jackets (4-1, 1-1)

The Bombers have ruled this series as of late, winning six of the last seven match-ups. Their only loss was a 14-7 defeat last season. In those seven match-ups, the Bombers have outscored the Yellow Jackets 191-63. The Bombers enter the game averaging 38 points per game so far this season, while the Choctaw defense only gives up an average of 19 points per game.

Owasso Rams (4-0) at Union Redskins (4-0) The winner of this showdown will have a leg up on the Class 6A-I District 2 title. The Redskins are 8-2 in the last ten meetings. Owasso is seeking their first 5-0 start since 2014. The Rams offense is averaging 54 points per game while the Redskin defense is only allowing 17 points per game. So somethings will have to give.  Catoosa Indians (4-0) at Oologah Mustangs (4-0) The surprise team of 4A so far this season is the Catoosa Indians. They have started the season 4-0, and defeated two Class 5A playoff teams. The previous three season, Catoosa has started 2-2, 2-2, and 1-3. Oologah has owned this series lately, going 8-1 in the last nine meetings. The Mustangs have made the last three 4A state title games, falling to Wagoner in each of those seasons. Athlete Spotlight: Lunden Hecht

Photo Credit: Jeff Stone We head to the southeast corner of Rogers County for this installment of the Athlete Spotlight. Catoosa High School is home to the Indians and is also home to junior Lunden Hecht.  She is a member of the Lady Indians basketball team and also a pole vaulter with the track and field team. Lunden is also member of the Partner’s Club, a group that helps the Catoosa Special Olympics team with different events. She has also worked part-time at Oklahoma Joe’s in Catoosa for about a month.  Lunden attends Woodcrest Church in Catoosa and is part of the youth group there. She also attends Church at Battlecreek on Sunday mornings.  When she has spare time at home, Lunden enjoys to cook. “I love to cook spaghetti, pork chops, chicken, and other stuff too”, she said. “I learned to cook from my mom. Athlete Spotlight: Lexi Weilert

For this edition of the Athlete Spotlight, we head to the small town of Verdigris, Oklahoma, home of the Cardinals. Lexi Weilert is a senior and has played both volleyball and basketball all four years of high school.  She has played both guard and post positions in basketball, while playing outside hitter for the volleyball squad.  In her four years, Lexi has racked up a few awards. She was named to the Coweta Volleyball Tournament All-Tournament Team in both her Freshman and Sophomore years. She also brought home the Defensive Most Valuable Player award in basketball her Junior season.  In her final season on the Verdigris basketball team, they have won the Chouteau Invitational Tournament and won the Consolation Championship in the Locust Grove Tournament. In post-season play, they defeated Morris 65-15 to claim the District Championship and advance to play Tahlequah-Sequoyah in Regionals. The District Championship game was Lexi’s last home game a
