The focus of this Athlete Spotlight is Fort Gibson Senior Zach Evans. Zach is a member of the Ft. Gibson basketball team, which ended the season with a 29-2 record and lost 45-33 to Kingfisher in the 4A State Championship game.

According to Renee, his mom, Zach has been a sports fan most of his life. “He started playing sports at three years old. He played soccer, t-ball, wrestling, football, baseball, and basketball,” she said. “Basketball became his favorite sport. During his middle school years, he took training from Don Calvert at Score Basketball in Bixby. He was introduced to a book titled “Do Hard Things”, and it has made a profound change in his life”.

Off the court, Zach won the lead role of Raoul in this years school musical, Phantom of the Opera. Outside of school, he is involved in his church, First Baptist Church of Fort Gibson. This summer he will be traveling to Madrid, Spain for a missions trip with the church.

Zach has also accumulated multiple awards. He was named a 2017 FCA All-State Athlete and he also made the 2017 OCBA (Oklahoma Coaches Basketball Association) All-State Academic Team. He was named 2017 Homecoming King for the Drama Club and he served as President of FCA/Teens for Christ. Zach received the Martin Scholarship to Oklahoma Baptist University, which is a full ride scholarship. He leaves high school with a 4.1 grade point average while scoring a 30 on the ACT Test.

Zach also has no doubt about what his life after high school will hold. “Being raised in a Christian home, I have always been drawn to the ministry,” he said. “However, my calling was really confirmed as a Freshman when God was opening doors for me to serve and preach more often”.

Zach plans to attend Oklahoma Baptist University as a Biblical Languages Major and hopes to be a pastor one day.
